The Trust are delighted to assist the radiotherapy department by purchasing new innovative technology equipment to improve treatment in that department.

Previously patients undergoing treatment were given “tattoos” to pinpoint precise areas needed to target treatment. Now ‘surface guided’ treatment systems which consist of multiple cameras and image sensors can lock the precise area of a tumour into place.

Similar treatment has been used for the past two years but now the system has been improved significantly for the patient. Going tatooless is a significant milestone in this treatment

University Hospitals Dorset is the first trust in the south-west to offer this new service and continues making Poole Hospital a front line player in the treatment of cancer in the UK.
