Summer Solstice Golf Day 2018

This Annual event is organised by Broadstone Golf Club and includes Dudsbury G C, Parkstone G C and Knighton Heath G C. The object is for each club to enter a team of 4 and they play 4 rounds of golf at each club course over one day, that’s 16 hours of carrying golf clubs up and down hills covering the distance of a marathon.

We were pleased to hear that this year the proceeds of the event were being donated to Poole Hospital Cancer Treatment Trust, after the event, it appeared that around £3,000 had been raised for us – a terrific result – Thanks to everyone for their support.

Charlotte’s Fun day in aid of PHCTT

Charlotte Biss from Ashley Heath contacted the Chairman of PHCTT in March of this year saying she was proposing to organise, with the help of family and friends, a charity event in May to raise funds for us. Poole Hospital has helped not only herself but many close family and friends and she wished to give something back.

She proposed having eight inches of her hair cut off and donated, creating a calendar of her brother and friends for sale, together with an auction for which many local firms had donated prizes, food sales etc.

The day arrived and she was very lucky in having beautiful weather to hold the event at her home. She raised the magnificent sum of £3,693.77 !! and is already thinking of ways she can do something more in the future.

Wonderful job, Charlotte – thanks a million.

Our pictures show Charlotte’s before and after her cut and presenting her cheque to the Chairman of PHCTT, Stuart Dean together with her parents and boyfriend.

A Team Effort from Cobhams, Tesco and PHCTT

The Trust was delighted to hear that it had been nominated as one of the three charities which would be supported during 2018 by the staff of Cobham’s of Wimborne.

We were approached to see if we could provide some prizes for the Annual Family Fun Day which was held in July. Due to our strong connection with local branches of Tesco we were able to give them a selection of over 20 prizes to help make this a very successful event.

Our picture shows the Chairman of the Trust, Stuart Dean, presenting the prizes to Max Forrester-Addie, a member of the staff committee of Cobhams.

Purchase of a new Ultrasound Machine for the Radiology department at Poole NHS Trust

Our Trust was approached by the radiology dept at Poole NHS Trust requesting that we assist them in the purchase of a new Ultrasound Machine for their use. Previously they have shared one with the A & E Trauma department.

The Trust was delighted to agree to this having seen the real need for radiology to have this piece of equipment for themselves at a cost of around £38,000 and these funds had been raised from a number of sources, as always through the generosity of the people of Poole and Dorset overall.

Our picture below shows the Ultrasound Machine being presented by the PHCTT Chairman Stuart Dean to Joanne Halfpenny the UltraSound Superintendent at Poole NHS Trust. Also in the picture are Debbie Fleming the Chief Executive at Poole NHS Trust, Paddy Clement and Dorothy Alder – Trustees of PHCTT and Heather Brown and Karen Ward who had presented a sum towards the purchase earlier with the help of Wareham Conservative Club.

Donation to PHCTT from Wareham

Heather Brown who has been suffering from pancreatic cancer has been treated by staff at Poole NHS Trust and she contacted our Chairman to say she would like to start a collection along with fellow members of Wareham Conservative Club to assist in the purchase of a piece of equipment needed by one of the cancer departments. After some discussion, it was agreed it would go towards an Ultrasound Machine required by the radiology department.

Over a three month period, she and her fellow helpers raised the sum of £1,002.64 what a result! Heather and her friend were invited into the hospital to present the cheque to the Chairman of PHCTT.

Our picture shows Heather presenting the cheque to the Chairman Stuart Dean, also present are Debbie Fleming, the CEO of Poole NHS Trust, Mandy Tanner, Radiology General Manager, Dorothy Alder and Paddy Clement, Trustee Members of PHCTT, Karen Ward one of Heather’s helpers from Wareham and Amy Morris, Katelyn Bysh and Edel O’hara, who have been involved with Heather’s treatment.

Donation from John Lewis for a second time

John Lewis at Branksome operates a token loyalty scheme with customers to support national and local charities chosen by staff members. The Trust was delighted that for a second time in two years it was chosen to benefit from the scheme. In the quarter involved the Trust benefitted in the sum of £1,208 as a donation from John Lewis. As always the Trust is very grateful for the support received.

The picture shows a member of John Lewis’s staff presenting a cheque to the Chairman.

Dorset Men’s Golf League Generous Donation

The players of the Dorset Men’s Golf League recently gave a generous donation amounting to £2,160 to the Trust. The clubs participating came from all over the county and all the players made a donation at each match. The cheque was presented at the Annual Dinner of the league held at Bulbury Woods Golf Club who won the competition.

The trust is extremely grateful to the League for thinking of us – the funds will go towards the purchase of a new ultrasound machine which we are purchasing for cancer patients within the radiology department.

The picture shows the cheque presentation to Marian Hallett one of the Trustees by the League Captain Colin Sparkes and the Vice-Captain John Millroy.
